Saving Animals

Hi, Hope you all are enjoying 2010...so far. Mine has been good.

I have posted some more photos of ABUSED animals in the WSPA folder....YES...I know it's not a very pleasant subject and everyone ususally says..."oohh don't tell me, it's too upsetting",  but then never do anything about it, in a practical sense at least.
Yet, over in Facebook, I am a member of a group who are against child abuse... Great, we are all doing our bit to get some awareness out... and everyone says,      " Oh, how terrible, I don't know how anyone can do such a thing to an innocent child...little baby...etc.." and " let the mongrels rot in jail, or castrate them". etc.

And yes I know, a child is different to an animal, but let me ask you a question... is there really any difference between a child abuser and an animal abuser? the only difference is in most cases of animal abuse there is the almighty $ involved, yet in many other cases the abuse is from a very nasty type of person....and it is the same type of person who will abuse an innocent child. Then on the other hand we also see adults exploiting vulnerable children for the almighty $ too.

But as sick as I feel when I see or hear of a child being abused, this album of photos is not about that it is about the abuse of animals around the world.

So I don't want to compare apples to oranges, even though they are both a fruit, if you get the idea.

Since I have been receiving my newsletters from PETA, I have read some very disturbing things, and it was because of them that my decision to become vegetarian was made, then I resolved to remain a vegetarian for my religion, but that's a different topic.

It is also a different sort of topic of what happens to commercial farm animals compared to what happens to animals that are very cruelly killed for the pelts - skins - furs - hides - tusks - bile, reproductive organs, -  entrees for the rich, - and then the products that are used in the cosmetic industry, and of course not forgetting the pharmaceutical and science industries etc.

So, I ask you to please go to the websites of IFAW, PETA and WSPA, and have a look at some of the work these organisations and the dedicated people do around the world on behalf of God's innocent creatures, support them with even a small donation, share your newsletters around and get the information out to people who may be unaware of where their products are coming from.

Thanks DeeDee.

NOTE**** None of these organisations have asked me to write anything about them or what they do. I do it because I believe in it. They do give permission for me to inform others and they supply the code for their banners from their individual websites to put on your on Blog - it costs NOTHING...it is FREE.

I have added another Banner to this page. This one is from IFAW...International Fund of Animal Welfare.
Yes, I am a proud member. I really urge you to be careful and aware of any products that you buy that says it is faux fur. Please check it as it very well could be the coat of a cat or dog, or some endangered animal. Yes, cats and dogs are often snatched up off the streets and sent to countries in cages, and then skun alive for their pelts/coats and then made into souvenir products and shipped back to Australia and other parts of the world, under the guise of rabbit fur or some other animal that a person wouldn't think twice about. This also includes and fur trimmings on clothes, bags etc.

If you are thinking that our animals in Australia are safe from this practice, PLEASE think again. There have been collars and tags of cats and dogs that had Australian addresses on them. So this is another reason why you are asked not to let your beloved pets roam around the streets.
I have seen the video footage of what happens to these animals and I was truly sickened. I also receive my regular newsletters that keep people informed of the disgusting practices of some unscrupulous people to make a quick buck.

Please don't just leave it up to others to help domestic and endangered animals of the world. Why not host a banner on your own page, donate a little bit of spare change to these organisations.... 3 lattes is more than $10....think about it.

Thanks
Dee
October 30

Pain is no hinderance.

Hi all.
Well it has been a long time since I was here last. Life sure has been busy for me since the middle of June 2009. My involvement with the Resource Centre has become a lot more often. We are now opening up a 2nd Resource centre in Sunbury...we will be getting it ready for an open day in January 2010. For now we are preparing to start up a 2nd hand clothing shop at the centre in St. Albans. We will be putting very low prices on all clothes and shoes and whatever else, as we would like to be able to give them away, but we also need to generate some sort of income so as we can keep on with the food bank and all the other FREE  services supplied from the centre, such as the soup van that goes out into the community, and the free lunches that we supply to anyone who cares to call in for a chat or whatever we may be able to help them with.
One of the other services that will be starting from next Wednesday will be conversational English, reading, writing and spelling, and I will be heading that up as well.

I have found myself growing in leaps and bounds since I have been involved, and that is thanks to the Bible Study group on Tuesday nights, and the Sabbath Services on Saturdays. But I think I have to thank my mentor Rhouel (a lay Pastor) for his help in answering my many, many questions that I was confused about from my years of searching many different avenues for the Truth.

As in the title of this peice, yes the bodily pain is still with me, in fact part of it from my neck affecting my arms and hands is worse so I think I need to go back to accupuncture to settle it down or I won't be able to hold a pen to write or even to type anything. It is hard enough holding a book to read so I need to prop it up on something. But I am not going to let that or anything else stop me from living my life.

The migraines have settled since my Doctor upped my migraine medication, but at least I can keep focus on things.
Since I have given up smoking, caffeine and all foods that are animal based (except eggs for cooking) I can't express enough how much clearer my mind is and how much happier I am feeling, but I also must attribute a lot of my happiness to the fact that I have invited Jesus to come back into my life.

Yep, that's right. Over the time many people have called me a Jesus Freak.... but I don't take any notice of this kind of thing, it just makes me feel sorry for the person who feels the need to put me down. It is usually the case that the people who do make fun of me, that they have a rather sad life...they have plenty of everything but they are not truly happy, they are always chasing that next thing to make them feel good, or they need to always be in the company of another person because they can't be alone with their own thoughts, or they turn to drink or drugs to stop hearing their own thoughts.

I would much rather a person tell me they are atheist. At least that is an honest reaction. But the people who believe in a mixture of things are really grasping at straws.

Anyway, my time with Hayley from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon is another highlight of my week. She is a funny little thing and was crawling before she was 7 months and was walking before 9 months. She has taken a few steps on her own but she still needs to hang onto something for the most part. I know we all think our own kids are special, and are so proud of their early achievements but boy oh boy, Hayley is months ahead of what her milestones should be.

So now the nice weather is here, I take her for walks in the stroller, or we just play games or sing songs. Her favourite one to sing by herself is the la-la song.

Anyway, best I finish up here as I have a full day ahead...
Before I go, the other day I heard on the news about the man who stopped to help a motorist in distress and in the process a wheel flew off a truck and struck the helper. The name of the man wasn't given. Then yesterday on the news it told about the funeral for this good Samaritan. I thought I was hearing something wrong. It mentioned his name ...John Kolich...I was dumbfounded. I met John many years ago through Lions International and he was in the same club as I was. He was a very nice, kind and loving man. He was generous with his time and money and never tried to make out he was better than anyone else. He never made a big thing with any money he handed over if we were raising funds for anything specific or if we needed anything. He done so much behind the scenes and never wanted any credit for it. Not only with Lions but in the general community he was a very kind and generous man. In his business, he was also very generous. His family was just everything to him...and he treasured his wife and children. He once had my car in there for some small repairs, and he refused to take any money for it. He also had a smile on his face, I am sure from the moment he woke up to the moment he went to sleep....this was the type of man that I knew him to be.

My deepest sympathy and respect to John's wife, Krystina and family.
I am sure he is peacefully at rest.
God Bless.

Butchered PUPPY and Bashed TODDLER

I was so upset last week when I read of that poor little 11 week old puppy that had its ears and tail butchered....cut off...mangled.
I was sickened to think that anyone could do that to any animal - yet we know it happens time and again.
I knew it happened around my neighbourhood somewhere, but the local paper did not say where at that time. Then today
I read the story online....that this sick person had been caught and was to be psychiatrically assessed.
And the place where this little puppy had been dumped was less than 2 km's from where at a Church.
OKAY, we know that people who do this sort of incomprehensible act have to be sick in the head, so yes, they do need help,
but I am fearful that this person will only get out-patient treatment and will not be put in prison - where he belongs... I.M.H.O.
As for this puppy, it is recovering, but it does need so much pyschiatric treatment of its own...it will need to learn not to be fearful of humans...
But I am sure with the loving treatment it is getting from the staff at The Lort Smith Animal Hospital it will do alright.
I am also equally sure there will be hundreds of calls made to the hospital applying to adopt this little one.

What could possible lead anyone to do this cruel act to any animal.....??? It's beyond me.

A few days before I read about that darling little girl who had been flown (from Q/L)  to Royal Childrens Hospital in Melb...( across the road from Lort Smith's) and then I saw a photo of her injuries... I cried for this little girl, and her injuries were caused by her father.
He had apparently taken her to the hospital then went and killed himself. I am trying so hard not to judge this man, as it is not up to us to judge anyone.
I can't even begin to understand anyone like these 2 men on this page and the many 'out there' like them.
And yes, I know that women do some terrible things too, but this is about these 2 men.

And then I read of the Soldiers who were killed and injured.

An Australian soldier has been killed in Afghanistan by an explosive device.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=839119

A second Australian digger was seriously wounded in the explosion, along with three Afghan civilians, including an eight year-old boy, defence says.

The incident took place during an operation "against a compound of interest" in the Baluchi Valley, Chief of Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston told a press conference in Canberra on Sunday morning.

Defence could not release personal details of the dead soldier at this stage, but the family had been contacted, he said.

The soldier was on his first deployment to Afghanistan but had previously served in East Timor.

then I read another article on MORE suicide bombings in Indonesia killing more people and some Aussies.

Australia and Indonesia say they received no intelligence to forewarn of the bomb attacks on two luxury hotels in Jakarta that killed at least nine.

Three Australians were among those killed in the coordinated suicide bombings on the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton hotels in central Jakarta on Friday.

Perth businessman Nathan Verity, 38, and Canberra Austrade official Craig Senger, 36, are now officially "presumed dead".

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith on Saturday said Australia "feared the worst" for Brisbane businessman Garth McEvoy, 54, but was unable to confirm he had been killed.

Is there no end to violence?????

Australian hospitals are well prepared for a possible terrorist attack on home soil, Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon says.

The minister said a significant amount of planning had gone into preparing for a terrorist attack if one occurred in Australia."Of course we believe our systems are well prepared," Ms Roxon told the Nine Network on Sunday.

I for one, do not believe Australian Hospitals would cope in the event of a terrorists attack on home soil. For goodness sakes, they couldn't even cope with the flu season and the added swine flu cases.

However, having said that, I understand there are many more units prepared for this though, and burns wards are well equipped. They apparently take into account the number of people who survive compared to the number of people who don't, and have plently of body bags at the ready.
This latest double attack in Indonesia's 2 most popular Hotels, is no less disgraceful than any other bombing attack.
And I am sure that this news will bring back some terrible memories of other attacks, in particular the Bali attacks, The survivors of that will have their memories of the pain and trauma they went through. The families and friends will remember the anguish and trauma they went through. I know from first hand accounts, that it never ends, the people personally involved still go through daily problems associated with either the trauma or the physical after effects...like the daily treatment of burn scars and body suits and the need to have inside temps low but that other people need to wear enough clothes to keep them warm.
And so many other daily things that happen but we are just not aware of the personal problems that go along with survivors and family members.

My prayers are daily and they take in all of the above. I ask you all to stop and think that no matter how smooth sailing your life seems or even if you have daily trials... mine seem so inconsequential compared to others... that you take a moment to think of other people before you complain about your lot in life.
Be grateful for what you have....do not yearn for what you want...only for what you need.

Just hello

Hi to everyone.
I know in this age of the internet and mobile phones it is more than 'just easy' to forget about how we used to communicate - verbally -
whether in person or over the phone. By the time most people get home after work or a full day of doing whatever,
picking up the phone to say hello to people is usually the last thing we feel like doing. After all, there are things to be done
like getting your dinner ready, and seeing to the kids - if you have any at home -  etc. Then later on there are emails to take care of, so what do we do...???
We go through our emails and if we find one that we think others might like we hit the forward link.
That way when the recipient gets it they know we have thought of them. A bit impersonal yeah???
So I - mostly - like to add a bit of a personal note - then I send it out to everyone.
YES even I have succumbed to technology. I do however, every now and then,
send a personal email to some people every now and then, but not often enough.
I have never really been one to just pick up the phone just to say hello, although there were times - way back when -
when I would ring someone just to catch up and say hi, how's it going type of thing.

I don't quite know what I would be like on my mobile phone if I did not have to worry about how much it costs...
I am pre-paid, and the small amount I spend on it would make most people fall on the floor laughing...
A $30 will last me for about 4 months and I only know 2 people on the same network so I get free time to them, if only I would remember to use them.
So now I am on a plan that is for 365 days, so that is good for me, if I do run out of text credit then I can still chat to these 2 people until I use the talk time up.

Yet I see some people who are totally addicted to their mobile phone. And the majority of people - mostly teens - but some adults as well - have NO etiquette when it comes to these things...they don't care where they are, who they are with, or the conversation going on around them. If that thing rings or makes a noise alerting them to a text message, they do not even say..."excuse me while I take this", signally that the person in conversation is nowhere near as important as to whoever is in that darn contraption. Why can't they turn it off if they are at a meal table - either at home or a restaurant - in a cinema, in a meeting room, or visiting relatives or friends?????
There have been times I have forgotten to turn mine off in certain settings  but if it rings or makes any noise, I will just ignore it. I have had people say to me...'why aren't you answering?' and I simply say...'I will check it later..."but it might be an emergency' is the response....to which I say...'if I had left it at home it would have to wait til I got there anyway." Usually when I am anywhere...I am in a position that I just can't be jumping up and running out anyway.
Then there is ...'what if it is an emergency?'  Well, how did we manage this in the PRE-Mobile phone days? Get home and find the lights on the answering machine flashing???????
I suppose I am just so frustrated with seeing teens (READ MY GRANDKIDS...) not even being able to leave their mobile phones in another room when they are asleep...usually they are within 2 feet of the head - if not under the pillow...I have to wonder what the radiation is doing to their brains.
So all in all...YES technology has its good uses but sometimes it's enough to drive me bloody crazy when I see teens not having any sense of being without it. I have seen some go into an absolute panic if their phone is not within reach or sight. I will even go one step further and say that it is one more addiction to add to the list.

ANY THOUGHTS????
